I'm running WXP with all the latest service packs and patches, and I've got the NVIDIA drivers loaded for the ALC850, rev. I've got the Realtek ALC850 record level turned all the way down, and I still get occasional clips. I know the problem is not with the preamp because I've used this setup with my older

When I install my SB Audigy I do a custom install which includes just the drivers and Surround Mixer. Onboard sound is generally horrible, with the exception of nVidia Soundstorm, which some motherboards have, though the MSI you mentioned has the RealTek ALC850 AC-97 chipset, which IIRC is a bit rubbish.

With the latest Uniaud drivers (in uniaud114rc1.zip), the ALC850 is recognized and the driver header line is displayed, but the driver then hangs.
